Anthropology Minor

Required: minimum of 15 semester hours

All minors are required to take ATY 212. In addition, they must select a minimum of 12 hours at the 200 level or above. The following suggested course sequences may be of interest to students pursuing specific majors and with certain career objectives.

  1. General Anthropology—ATY 213, 253, 360, 363
  2. Ethnology/Ethnography—especially useful for majors in social studies, history, geography, economics, and international studies. Courses recommended include ATY 213, 325, 330, 333, 362, 371, and 465.
  3. Linguistics—especially useful for majors in language arts, a foreign language, English, professions in deafness, speech pathology, social studies, and international studies. ATY 385 recommended.
  4. Archaeology—especially useful for majors in classical studies, geography, and environmental studies. Courses recommended include ATY 253, 258, 360, 362, 370, and 553.
  5. Physical Anthropology—especially useful for majors in archaeology, biology, chemistry, nutrition, and psychology. Courses recommended include ATY 253, 331, 359, 553, 555, and 559.

Students in consultation with a member of the department may plan a minor to enhance their career objectives as they choose. They may also take approved independent study courses or approved selected topics courses.
