- What drew you UNCG?
- My mother and my grandmother both graduated from UNCG, so the school always held a special place in my heart. Academically, UNCG offered everything I was interested in and the campus immediately felt like home; in fact, it was the only college I applied to, so I'm glad it worked out!
- What did being a student leader at UNCG mean to you?
- It provided me the opportunity to run in circles with other leaders on campus, and to learn from their skill and talent. I also had the chance to work on my public speaking and presentation skills, which I still use to this day. I even earned scholarship money based on my service, which never hurts.
- What is your favorite UNCG memory?
- I have a hard time choosing just one! The wonderful friends I made during my time at UNCG really stand out. I have a close inner circle, and my dearest friends come from UNCG.
- What advice would you give current UNCG students or specifically, student leaders?
- Don't sweat the small stuff. Whether you hold an office in an organization or you’re planning a big event, don't worry about every detail. It's impossible to please everyone, things will go wrong, and even the best plans will change. Learn how to go with the flow.
- What have you been doing since graduating?
- Moving, moving, moving! After I graduated from UNCG, I earned a master's degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University. I spent a semester studying in Washington, DC before taking my first television job in Hagerstown, Maryland. I married a wonderful man, Chris, in 2004. In 2006, I moved back to Greensboro to work for WFMY News 2. In August 2008, my husband and I moved yet again, this time to Atlanta, Georgia. Upon earning his PhD from the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, my husband got a job with Georgia Tech. I snagged a great position at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I think we'll stay put for a few years, as we're both tired of all the packing and unpacking! Despite the inconvenience, my nomadic existence has provided some incredible opportunities, and I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had since college for anything. My time at UNCG prepared me well for everything that has happened since.
