Student Outcomes Assessments

UNCG requires students to participate in student outcomes assessments prior to their graduation. In addition to in-class assessments, students are tested outside the classroom using standardized tools as freshmen and then again as seniors. Scores on these tests are not used to evaluate students on an individual basis, but are used to evaluate learning across the University’s programs. Participation in these processes is required for graduation.

In addition to these two testing obligations, students may also be invited to complete tests measuring other learning outcomes such as information literacy or science. These tests may occur at different times in a student’s career. Participation is expected.

Students will participate as follows:

  • First-time, full-time freshmen are tested in the fall.
  • Graduating seniors are tested in the spring before they graduate.
  • Additional tests may be given at other points in the student’s career.
