200, 201 Introduction to International and Global Studies (3:3)

GE Marker: IGS 200 meets GN; IGS 201 meets GL

Required for majors and minors.

An interdisciplinary course introducing students to substantive concerns of International and Global Studies and the methods of investigation and transferable skills employed in it.

210 Introduction to Asian Studies (3:3)

An interdisciplinary course introducing students to the study of Asia as a region, along with the methods of investigation and transferable skills of a focused regional approach. (Alt Fall)

213 Experimental Course: Introduction to Russian Studies (3:3)

An interdisciplinary course introducing students to substantive concerns of Russian Studies along with the methods of investigation and transferable skills employed in it. (Offered fall '10)

223 Foundational Topics in International and Global Studies (3:3)

Pr. none other than those previously assigned to the department-based courses with which this course is cross-listed

May be repeated for credit when topic changes.

An intermediate-level course concentrating on foundational topics of international and/or global concern. The content of this course may grow out of issues explored in IGS 200 or 201. (Fall & Spring & Summer)

333 Selected Topics: International and Global Studies (3:3)

May be repeated for credit as topic changes.

An advanced-level course concentrating on specific topics of international and/or global concern. The content of this course may grow out of materials explored initially in IGS 200 or 201.

400 Capstone Seminar in International and Global Studies (3:3)

Pr. IGS 200 or 201 or equivalent

Required for majors and minors. Majors and second majors should have completed at least 15 s.h. of IGS-qualified additional courses; minors should have completed their 6 s.h. of required additional courses. Exceptions must be approved by the Director of IGS.

An interdisciplinary capstone seminar offering in-depth examinations of contemporary international and global issues and applications of advanced research methods and relevant transferable skills.

493 Honors Work (3:3)

Pr. permission of instructor; permission of IGS director; minimum 3.30 GPA and 12 s.h. in the major

May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 s.h. if the topic of study changes

495 Individual Study (1–3)

Pr. IGS 200 or 201 or equivalent, or permission of IGS director

May be repeated for a maximum of six (6) semester hours.

Directed program of individual study or research. Available to qualified students in collaboration with a qualified instructor and/or the IGS director.
