Words of Encouragement

Words of EncouragementAs the semester begins to wind down, students often feel the stress of finishing up projects, papers and presentations and are gearing up for finals. As the Spring 2009 semester draws to a close, the Office for Adult Students wanted to take a moment to encourage adult students. Adult students were asked to submit their favorite inspirational or motivational quotes for the "Encouraging Words" display in Jackson Library during Fall of 2008.

We've compiled the quotes submitted by adult students into a web page to encourage other adult students to "hang in there." Please click here to view this page and read the quotes!

Adult Students elected University Marshals

Adult Students John King and Jesse Russo have been selected as University Marshals for the 2009 - 2010 school year. We are so proud of their success!

"What's For Dinner?" Contest

What's For Dinner? The Office for Adult Students accepted recipes for our "What's For Dinner?" contest through March. During the two weeks of the contest, OAS received 65 submissions from 45 students. We are pleased to announce the Grand Prize and First Place Winners below. Please visit the contest website for a complete listing of winners and to view all of the recipes. If you have not been to OAS to pick up your prize, please come to 210 EUC!

Information About Honorary Societies

In late Spring Semester, honorary societies around campus begin the process of offering invitations to students to join. There are a great number of reputable societies on campus for which it is a great honor to join; however, some honoraries are less reputable and even charge you a fee for membership at very small benefit. If you have received an invitation, we encourage you to research the organization first to make sure it is an affiliated UNCG society, especially before you spend any money. An excellent resource for finding campus affiliated honoraries is the Campus Activities and Programs Website, though the list is not necessarily comprehensive. The Office for Adult Students can also help clarify which organizations have a positive reputation based on previous experience.

Talk Walkers!

Talk WalkersThe "Talk Walkers" program has been modified. Now, come in any time during OAS hours when you are able to walk for 30 minutes. Come to the Office for Adult Students (210 EUC) to pick up a pedometer and drop off your stuff!

Triad Commute Challenge

UNCG is joining the Triad Commute Challenge by encouraging commuters who normally drive alone to consider more environmentally responsible ways to access campus. For more information and to register, please visit Triad Commute Challenge.

Registration is Here!

Registration for Summer and Fall 09 semester is quickly approaching! In order to assist those adult students who have not been through registration before, we have made a presentation available with some tips, pointers, and important dates here. This presentation was originally made by Nancy Bucknall (from CASA) and has been adapted for adult students. For the Registrar's website on how to register for classes, please go here.
