Hi, my name is Jim Hoffman.
I’m an adult returning student.
About 10 years after receiving my undergraduate degree, I came back to take prepatory courses for a masters program I will be enrolling in.
I thought it would be a good idea to brush up on some of my study skills, so I came to the Learning Assistance Center to take a short assessment and then I sat down with one of their advisors to review some of my strengths and weaknesses and they gave me some great strategies for over coming them.
I also met a couple of weeks later for a follow-up just to make sure I was on track as we were approaching the mid-semester mark.
I also value the use of the computers as far as using their GRE program in preparation for my application to my Master’s program.
Lastly I really felt, in addition to all the information that they gave me, they were almost like my academic coach—someone that I could share my concerns with coming back to school after a number of years and it just felt like they were on my side, ready to listen to my concerns and even give me direction to other resource centers around the campus.
