Counseling & Testing Center

- Services and Programs: The Counseling and Testing Center assists students by providing personal counseling, psychotherapy, and medication management, which often enhances academic performance. Group and outreach programs are also provided.

- Services and Programs: The Center offers student career, vocational, personal, family, and life planning counseling services. Group counseling and support are used when concerns are best addressed through interaction with peers. Evaluations for learning disabilities are conducted by licensed psychologists. Fees are charged for these services. Study skills, mathematics and reading clinics are offered. Please call for more information.

English as a Second Language: Department of English

Courses:
- English 101N - English Composition I for Nonnative Speakers provides students with an opportunity to learn and practice some of the important conventions of academic writing. A secondary, but very important goal, is to provide students with the opportunity to strengthen their academic English. For degree-seeking students, English 101N is equivalent to English 101 and fulfills a University Reasoning and Discourse requirement.
- English 203W - Academic English for Speakers of Other Languages, designed for students whose first language is not English, helps develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across different cultural contexts. Reading assignments will include academic, civic, and popular discourse. Usually taught as writing-intensive, thus meeting a lower-division writing requirement.

GRE/GMAT/LSAT Test Preparation: Division of Continual Learning

- Services and Programs: The Division of Continual Learning provides an affordable test preparation programs for the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT Tests. Classes focus on test-taking techniques, timesaving methods, logical reasoning, reading comprehension, analytical reasoning and essay writing. The International Programs Center (IPC)

- Services and Programs: The UNCG International Programs Center offers direct exchanges with universities all over the world. Many of the programs are offered in English. Study Abroad offers students the unique opportunity of visiting another country as a student rather than as a tourist.

Jackson Library

- Services and Programs: The Library's web page provides access to the library catalog and over 120 databases in a variety of fields, most of which are available both on-campus and off-campus with a valid UNCG ID. Jackson Library contains more than 2.5 million books, documents and microtexts, 4 million manuscript items, and approximately 5200 print subscriptions and 7000 full-test electronic journals. The library includes reading rooms, carrels, individual and group study areas and a classroom and lab equipped with micro computers. Orientation sessions about the Library and instruction in the use of information resources are available - call 334-5419 for more details.

Learning Assistance Center

- Services and Programs: The Learning Assistance Center provides programs and services to help undergraduates improve their academic performance and achieve their educational goals. Academic services include: academic skills assessment, learning assistance materials, free tutoring, learning style assessment, and academic skills workshops.

Speaking Center

- Services and Programs: The University Speaking Center provides reactive and proactive services for UNCG students. Services are designed to empower clients with communication confidence and competence. Assistance is offered in the preparation and delivery of speeches development of knowledge and skills in interpersonal communication, and overall success in group or team communication situations.

Special Support Services

- Services and Programs: Special Support Services is an educational support program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The program provides free services to eligible students, including: an academic skills lab, counseling and advising, graduate school guidance,a writing program, computer assistance, cultural/educational activities, peer mentoring for freshmen, and tutoring. Students may also receive assistance in making educational plans for graduation and further education.

Writing Center

- Services and Programs: Students who are writing papers are welcome to bring their works-in- progress to the Writing Center for individual consultation, suggestions, and instruction. The Writing Center is staffed by graduate and undergraduate students from the English and other departments.
