Multi-purpose Marinara Sauce
Recipe Description:
Wonderful, fresh tasting red sauce that can be used in any Italian dish, added to soups and also makes a great pizza/dipping sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4-5 cloves garlic, minced
- 3-4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 29 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 29 oz can tomato puree
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons sweet basil
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- 5-7 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
- Sautee onions and garlic in olive oil until tender over medium high heat
- Transfer to crock pot set on low
- Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes and tomato puree, mixing well
- Add 1 29 oz can of water (rinse all cans into one)
- Add spices, sugar, salt
- Simmer for 5-6 hours
- Yields a large amount; Freezes well
