Recipe Name:

Multi-purpose Marinara Sauce

Recipe Description:

Wonderful, fresh tasting red sauce that can be used in any Italian dish, added to soups and also makes a great pizza/dipping sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4-5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3-4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 29 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 29 oz can tomato puree
  • 1 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons sweet basil
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5-7 tablespoons sugar

Directions:

  1. Sautee onions and garlic in olive oil until tender over medium high heat
  2. Transfer to crock pot set on low
  3. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes and tomato puree, mixing well
  4. Add 1 29 oz can of water (rinse all cans into one)
  5. Add spices, sugar, salt
  6. Simmer for 5-6 hours
  7. Yields a large amount; Freezes well
