Summer Getaway

2009 The Best of Italy

Collosseum

OK, we know what you’re thinking: Italy again, ho hum, we always go to Italy.

What’s that you say, you’ve never been to Italy? You mean you’ve never stood in the Coliseum of Rome and imagined what might have happened there 19 centuries ago? You’ve never gazed in wonder at Michelangelo’s monumental ceiling in the Sistine Chapel? You’ve never walked the same paths as Julius Caesar or paid a visit to one of the Medici family’s palazzos in Florence or seen the gondolas glide along the canals in Venice?

Well then, you really have to go on this trip. Italy has been waiting just for you. It’s a celebration of sights and sounds and good things to eat. It’s the hustle-bustle of Rome and the quiet of the Italian countryside; a strawberry-apricot gelato enjoyed in the shadow of the Pantheon, the jaw-dropping interior of Saint Peter’s Basilica, the countless bridges of Venice, the medieval city of Assisi – destroyed by an earthquake and now meticulously restored.

Every Getaway is filled with history, culture and fun – lots of fun. We’ll travel together just like a big family. And, although the trip is geared for students, everybody is invited to come along: moms, dads, grandparents, uncles, aunts, even big brothers and sisters have traveled with the Getaway. We’ll have free time to wander, gawk, sample the local cuisine and of course, shop. We hope you’ll join us for this exciting trip.

We plan to depart from Raleigh on or about August 4, 2009 and return on August 13. Because of flight availability the actual dates of the trip might vary slightly.

This Getaway is for All-Arts & Sciences Campers ages 12-17, their adult relatives and friends.
