The Master of Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed for unique freedom and flexibility of study. Its coursework encourages critical and imaginative thinking on intellectual, social, political, historical, literary and artistic issues within a broad humanistic perspective. Seminar-style courses, both face-to-face and online, are taught by professors noted for teaching excellence. They encourage lively dialogue and debate among adult participants. Students freely explore study outside rigidly constructed specializations.
The MLS program requires 33 semester credit hours of graduate study, to be completed within five years. The course of study is very flexible and allows you to design an individual program that best reflects your needs and interests. In order to meet the needs of our adult students, MLS courses meet in the evening at the Triad Center and the degree is also available totally online. Spring and fall classes meet one night a week, summer session courses meet twice weekly, and a five week online wintersession course is also available. Most students are able to complete the degree in three to four years.
MLS is accredited by SACS, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and by AGLSP, Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs. The program is open to all college graduates regardless of their undergraduate majors.
