Family makes it all worth it. For no other reason would I give so much of myself. And what a blessing to be in the position to do so!

Before we (my parents and I) moved from California to North Carolina in 1998, my mother must have hosted 100 garage sales -- one for every week in which there was a Saturday (get the picture?). Our 23-year-old home had, exactly, 23 years' worth of clutter. She was known to retrieve things out of the trash after we tried to secretly throw them away. On top of having the disease where you can throw nothing away, my mother also was afflicted with the inability to donate anything to Goodwill without trying to make a buck first. Why am I sharing this? As I read Bob's thoughts on his "growing" family and the inheritance of more stuff, it made me think back to those days of preparing to move from West coast to East coast, and how we struggled to go from "more" to "less." One of my dad's solutions: He buried, in the backyard, all my mom's homecanned goods that were at least 4 years old, without her knowledge. Turns out, the person that purchased the home from us was a landscape artist. I wonder what he did when he found all those jars of pickles buried in the southeast corner of the yard?!
