I'm taking this class on-line, but I am used to taking a more typical lecture style class. About how much time should I plan to put into the class?
If you were doing this class “live” at UNCG during a regular session, you would attend three one hour lectures per week and would probably do about 6 hours of work to keep up. An on-line course will probably require about the same amount of time outside of class. REMEMBER, this is a summer class and you will have to spend more time per week since this is a condensed version. If you were doing this class “live” in summer school, you would have at least four 1½ hour lectures per day.
- Being a last minute person, I like to study just before an exam. How will that work with an on-line course?
POORLY! One of the biggest problems students have with an on-line format is time management and procrastination. You will need to work on the material daily to keep up.
- Besides the text, what else do I need to read or purchase?
Nothing. There are other readings, websites, a couple of videos, and journals that you will need to use.
- If I can't get my computer to work right or have other technical questions, whom do I call?
For technical questions DO NOT E-MAIL YOUR INSTRUCTOR!! HE IS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP. Contact msbrewst@uncg.edu . Put “Soc 101 -01D Help needed” in the subject line for quicker response.
- Regarding course content questions, do I e-mail the professor?
NO. Post content questions in Questions for the Professor at Discussion Board on Blackboard. Posting your question and checking those of others will help everyone in the class.
- Are the test taken on line? If so, are there specific times they must be taken?
Yes and Yes. For further details, see the course outline for the dates of the exams and the time frame for taking them.
- My family is taking a trip during the time I'll be taking this class and I want to go. Will that be possible?
Yes. Just take your computer along with you and when your family is out on the beach, you can stay in the hotel room and do your class work. Have a good time.
