Unit 6:  Louis XIII, 1610—1643

Louis XIII became king when he was nine years old. His mother, Marie de Medicis, became regent and appointed Cardinal Richelieu as one of her advisors. Though Louis XIII would eventually make some contributions to the urbanization of Paris , his efforts would be outweighed by those of his mother, the Cardinal, and private entrepreneurs.
