Paris in the early Middle Ages can be divided into three periods:

• Merovingian and Carolingian Paris c.500–c.885/ 886
  
  
• Paris 910–1180 (10 th –12 th Centuries)
  
  
• The Paris of Philippe Auguste (1180–1223)
