Unit 1:  Origins of the City: Lutetia to Paris

In general, the establishment of early Paris can be divided into three different periods:

  • Parisii and Julius Caesar (c. 250 B.C. to 52 B.C.)
  • Gallo-Roman Lutetia (52 B.C. to 250 A.D.)
  • Lutetia becomes Paris (250 A.D. to 500 A.D.)

Keep these time periods in mind as you learn about the city's origins.
