Library Resources
- Tutorial. Learn how to research the library at http://library.uncg.edu/depts/ref/tutorial/.
- Online catalog. This allows you to search online for all the books, music, videos, and other formats that UNCG has to offer. You can search for items by author, title, or subject, and find out the call number, status of the material(s), and file an online request to check out the material.
- E-reserves. Items traditionally placed on reserve in the library can now be put on E-reserve, which you can access through your computer. (This primarily includes book chapters and articles.) Materials are scanned into Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) files, which you can view through your Web browser plug-in. Just click on the E-reserve link in your class, log in using your name and student ID, find the material, and read it at your own pace.
- Online journal finder. Helps you access over 25,000 magazines, journals, and newspapers. Available articles may be accessed online, in print, or be delivered by Web, email, or mail.
- Electronic databases. The library database offers access to hundreds of journals, indexes, and articles. You may search by subject (Accounting, Business, Nursing, etc.) or by the title of the index (Alternative Press Index, American Poetry, etc.). Many articles are in full-text format; others may be requested by document delivery or bought online. You’ll need your Social Security Number (or university ID) to access databases.
- Subject guides. These are a time-saving bonus resource the library professionals have put together for you by identifying the databases, E-journals, course guides, and catalogs available through UNCG. They also identify the librarian who is best qualified to help you in a subject you are researching.
- Library services and info. These services include access to UNCG distance librarians, email reference and real-time reference services, a Journal finder and access to electronic books.
- Electronic books. Jackson Library is currently expanding its collection of electronic books to include titles from NetLibrary, the Internet Classics Archive, Project Gutenberg, and other electronic sources. At this point, NetLibrary hosts the largest portion of UNCG’s e-book collection, a web-based virtual library of full-text scholarly, reference, and professional books that provides access to over 15,000 titles. You can read books online, search for keywords through hundreds of books at once, or build virtual bookshelves of e-books for your courses.
- Web search. The library offers a tutorial on research in general, and provides steps on how to search the Web in particular at http://library.uncg.edu/depts/ref/tutorial/websites/.
- Online services for students with disabilities. These are found at http://library.uncg.edu/depts/circ/disabilityservices.html.
- Unanswered questions? Please contact an Information Technology Librarian at (336) 256-1218 or a Reference Librarian at (336) 334-5419.
As a UNCG student, you have access to a wealth of electronic resources through UNCG’s Jackson Library at http://library.uncg.edu. You can even reserve or renew materials entirely through the Internet and search and read course materials online.
