Professional interests: Holds the position of Assistant Professor of International Business at UNC Greensboro since 2009. Her research is in the area of international strategic management. Her work focuses on examining the effect of cultural differences on knowledge and innovation management in the empirical context of international mergers & acquisitions and multinational corporations. Dr. Sarala has been a visiting scholar at Columbia University in NYC, EM Lyon Business School in France, and Hanken School of Economics in Finland. Her research has been published in renowned management and international business journals, including Journal of Management Studies (2012), Journal of International Business Studies (2010), Thunderbird International Business Review (2008, 2013), and Scandinavian Journal of Management (2010). She is also an author of M&A related book chapters in the Handbook for Mergers and Acquisitions Research and Wiley Encyclopedia of Management. Her recent awards include Bryan School Junior Research Excellence Award, Bryan School Dean's Research Scholar Grant Award, and Undergraduate Research Assistant Grant Award. Also, she was a runner up for Best PhD Paper Award (Strategic Management Society Conference) and finalist for Best Paper Award (e.g. Academy of International Business Conference; AIB South-East Conference; Strategic Management Society Conference). Dr. Sarala is fluent in English, Finnish, Swedish, German, French, and Italian. She enjoys the outdoors, playing the piano, and is a proud owner of an eclectic group of dogs (cane corso, coton de tulear, tibetan spaniel).
