DUAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

A dual degree entitles a student to two diplomas. In order to earn a dual degree, a student must complete all requirements for the first degree, plus a minimum of 31 additional semester hours in residency (at UNCG) that are not used in any way towards the first degree. No transfer hours can be counted in the additional 31 hours needed for the dual degree. For example, if a student wishes to earn a dual degree in Psychology and Political Science, she will have to complete all of the requirements for the Psychology degree (122 hours), and then complete an additional 31 semester hours in residency while fulfilling the requirements for the Political Science major, including one Writing Intensive and one Speaking Intensive course within the Political Science department. She will have to fulfill GEC requirements only for the primary degree.

A student may end up taking courses beyond what the department requires in order to complete enough unshared semester hours to qualify for a dual degree. For example, the Political Science major requires a minimum of only 30 hours, so she will have to take an hour of elective credit to satisfy the 31-hour requirement. Further, if she has used any of the Political Science courses to fulfill requirements for the Psychology degree (to meet the 300-level requirement or any other marker or GEC category), those courses will not count towards the additional 31 hours required for a dual degree. She will have to continue taking courses at UNCG until she has completed 31 unshared hours.
