Applicants to UNCG are required to have two years of the same foreign language in high school in order to be admitted without a deficiency. Regardless of whether a student is missing two years or only one year of a high school level foreign language, foreign language proficiency through the 102 level must be demonstrated in order to have the deficiency removed. Usually, this means completing two semesters of a foreign language. Students who are admitted with a foreign language deficiency are notified of the deficiency in their admissions letter. Admissions deficiencies are not noted on a student's online degree evaluation (CAPP report). However, if a student is being audited by hand on a paper audit sheet, the deficiency should be marked on it. Faculty should remember to ask advisees if they have been admitted with a foreign language deficiency.
