What types of scholarships does UNCG award?
UNCG offers both need-based scholarships and merit scholarships. Most of our scholarships are based on financial need or a combination of need and merit. UNCG also awards scholarships based solely on academic merit to students who have very strong grades and SAT or ACT scores.
How do I apply for need-based scholarships?
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1, 2010. The form is available online and in your high school guidance office. You will be considered for all types of need-based assistance, including grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study jobs. The priority filing date is March 1, so don't delay! Visit the UNCG Financial Aid Office for more information.
How do I apply for merit scholarships?
Complete the UNCG Merit Awards Program application and send it to our Financial Aid Office by January 4, 2010 (late applications will not be accepted). You can apply online, or you can obtain an application from your high school Guidance Counselor or by calling the Financial Aid Office at (336) 334-5702. You are encouraged to apply if you have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher and at least 1800 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT. If you plan to apply for a merit scholarship, a completed application for admission must be received by the Merit Award application deadline (January 4, 2010). Most of the scholarships require finalists to attend on-campus interviews in February, although some scholarships may be awarded without an interview.
Are there other scholarships that I can apply for?
Yes! Outside scholarships are available from many civic organizations, churches, educational foundations, high schools, and other sources. Be sure to check out the wealth of free scholarship information available on the Web. Here are a few sites to get you started:
