Students outside of Library

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting, residential university chartered in 1891. It is one of the three original institutions of The University of North Carolina System.

Enrollment

Approximately 17,157 students (31 percent male, 69 percent female) from 49 states and more than 70 countries including 13,156 traditional undergraduates. The fall 2007 freshman class is the largest ever at 2,445. Minority enrollment is about 26%.

Classes & Faculty

Average class size is 27 students, and more than a third of classes have 20 or fewer students. Approximately 1,700 classes are offered each semester. Student/faculty ratio is approximately 17:1. Ninety percent of classes are taught by professors.

Campus Life

Students outside Cotten dormUNCG's picturesque campus includes 30 academic buildings and 24 residence halls on 210 acres. Opportunities for students include 180 student organizations, 16 intercollegiate athletic teams, intramurals, club sports, recreation center, campus golf course, student newspaper, student literary magazine, student radio station, music and choral groups, drama and dance performance groups, concert and lecture series, film series, internships, outing club, fraternities and sororities, community service and field campus for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. Costs

For full-time students living on campus, 2007-2008 basic costs (excluding clothing, travel, and personal expenses) total approximately $9,763 for in-state students and $21,031 for out-of-state students.

Housing

Student in DormEighty percent of freshmen live on campus in twenty-four residence halls. Four residence halls house special living/learning communities which connect students with faculty mentors: Grogan Residence Hall, home of Grogan College; Mary Foust Residence Hall, home of Ashby Residential College; South Spencer Residence Hall, home of Cornelia Strong College; and Phillips Hawkins Residence Hall, home of International House. Students are not required to live on campus as freshmen, but are encouraged to. Visit Housing & Residence Life's website for more information on housing.
