UNCG was founded in 1891 as a school for women. The university has been coed since the 1960s and is one of the three original institutions of the consolidated University of North Carolina system. UNCG is the 5th largest school in the UNC system, with more than 13,000 enrolled in undergraduate programs. Overall, there are more than 17,000 students at UNCG.
