Majors, Concentrations, and Minors
- The Business Administration major provides students with a broad exposure to the functional areas of business and a more comprehensive understanding of one of the managerial specialties in a specific concentration. The Business Studies concentration provides students with a customized degree, combining courses from functional areas both inside and outside of business. Examples of customized degree programs include human resource management, health care management, and pre-law.
- The Marketing major is distinctive in the Bryan School by requiring extensive participation in experiential learning such as International Marketing and Advanced Marketing Management, both of which require students to put their academic knowledge to use solving real marketing problems for real businesses.
- The International Business major is an interdisciplinary program in the Bryan School of Business and Economics administratively located in the Department of Business Administration. The program is distinctive in the Bryan School by requiring experiences and competence in areas such as language and study abroad that are not required in other business programs. The capability to understand other cultures, societies, and economies is achieved by requiring/recommending more in liberal education and related areas than is required in General Education requirements for other business programs.
- The Entrepreneurship Minor is intended to bring an entrepreneurship perspective to all majors in the Bryan School.
- The Business Minor is intended for non-Bryan majors interested in an exposure to the functional areas of business.
Disciplinary Honors in Business Administration
The Department of Business Administration supports and encourages students to participate in an appropriate Honors Program administered by the Lloyd International Honors College. Students in the Disciplinary Honors program take or design enhanced courses in their major. The advanced understanding and skills that they gain provide Honors students with a competitive edge in applying to graduate schools. Those seeking employment will find that prospective employers view participation in Honors as a good proxy for workers who are capable, well-trained, eager to learn, and intellectually curious.
Special Application Procedures
There are no special application procedures for freshman applicants. However, there are secondary admission requirements to be admitted to the Department and the Bryan School. Students must complete a group of pre-admission courses during the freshman and sophomore years and earn a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 to be admitted to the Bryan School. International Business majors have an additional minimum GPA admission requirement of 2.50.
What's unique about Business Administration at UNCG?
- The Bryan School's mission is to offer education programs that prepare students to perform successfully as business professionals in a global economy. Therefore, majors in the Department of Business Administration benefit from the infusion of these critical issues throughout the curriculum.
- Students take courses in which they explore "real world" business situations. Students have the opportunity to meet with area businesses to assist in finding solutions to identified problems. Many businesses have found international markets for their products as a result of student team efforts, while other businesses have implemented student-proposed recommendations.
