What's Unique about Community Health Education at UNCG?

Students who graduate with a B.S. degree in Public Health Education are lifesavers! With a focus on prevention, our program prepares students for careers or graduate studies that inspire them to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities as well as the living and working conditions that influence their health. Health education improves the health status of individuals, families, communities, states, and the nation, and enhances the quality of life for all people. Health education is a profession that draws from the biological, environmental, social-psychological, physical and medical sciences and as such, our program focuses on the development of individual, group, institutional, community and policy strategies to improve health.

What makes us different from the rest? Para-professionals and health professionals from other disciplines are not familiar with the specialized body of health education knowledge, skills, theories, and research, nor is it their primary interest or professional development focus.

Careers

  • Approximately 80% of our recent graduates are employed in community health education related professional positions or graduate studies.
  • Most graduates are employed in community health departments or health-related organizations.
  • Most graduates begin their employment by focusing on the prevention of specific health problems such as AIDS, child abuse, cancer, heart disease, communicable disease, environmental contamination, violence, stress, and teenage pregnancies.
