Second Degree Students

Students in front of MinervaIf you have earned a Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, we welcome your interest in pursuing a second degree at UNCG.

A student pursuing a second degree must select a different major from the first degree. The first degree must have been earned at a regionally accredited college or university. Second degree students are not required to complete general education core requirements (GEC), but must complete courses required for the major (both in the department and cognate areas). Students must meet the UNCG residency requirement (31 hours on our campus). Courses from a first degree can apply to the second degree.

Application Deadlines*

  Fall 08 Spring 09
Second Degree August 1 December 1

*A new process implemented by the UNC system requires us to request additional information regarding campus safety questions, if needed. If an application is received without reasonable time to collect this information, it may be deferred to the next application term.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions must receive all application materials by the dates listed. An applicant who holds a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and who wishes to pursue a second baccalaureate degree in a different field must:

  • Complete the application and return it to The Office of Undergraduate Admissions with the application fee.
  • Submit official transcripts from each postsecondary institution previously attended (including summer school and extension). An applicant holding a baccalaureate degree and taking work for credit for other purposes must apply through the Graduate School.*
  • Check the Academics/Majors page for special requirements for each program.

*Exception I: second-degree applicants to Preprofessional Programs, including the Pre-Medical Program, should apply through The Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Exception II: All students seeking Initial "A" Teacher's Licensure in the same major as their degree should contact the UNCG Teacher's Academy at 336.334.3412.

We look forward to hearing from you as you take the next steps in achieving your educational goals.
